- Yesterday I had this install problem that isn't a problem any more
- (this may be of interest to some people who have/will have the same
- problem), and here's what happened, but now I have a new problem:
-
- Yesterday:
- ----------
- Install problem - I am running the standard NT install stuff, and
- shortly after starting the character-based part, the system hangs
- during the "Examining disk configuration..." part. I let it sit for 5
- or 10 minutes and it does nothing. The system won't respond to
- anything but a hard reset. But then, ...
-
- Last night:
- -----------
- Just for yuks, I left the system on all day after it "hung" just to
- see what would happen. Lo and behold, when I checked on it that night,
- it had successfully moved on (apparently the OS/2 partitions on my
- disk, which it listed as type "unknown", confused it, because when I had
- to rerun the install later after deleting these partitions, it showed
- no signs of its earlier behavior). Great!, ...
-
- But then:
- ---------
- The installation proceeded just fine, copying files from CD to hard disk,
- but then, shortly after starting what I guess is a boot of NT itself
- (just after the part that says something like MmInit=16064K), I
- get an Internal Error 0x00000069, Fatal Error message.
-
- I checked the FAQ file on Compuserve, and it said something about this
- being a problem communicating with the HD controller (I assume they
- really do mean hard disk here and not the CD controller, right?), and
- that I should try adjusting the DMA rate. However, I don't think my
- disk controller does DMA (there's no DMA channel select, rate select,
- etc.). My SCSI adapter for the CD does DMA and has a rate select, but
- is this pertinent to this error message?
-
- Is anyone familiar with this problem?
-
-
- Here are the particulars of my system configuration:
-
- 386/33 w/ Opti chipset
- AMI BIOS dated 6/1/92
- 16 MB RAM
- Ultrastor 12F ESDI disk controller w/ Track Remapping on
- 676 MB Maxtor disk
- Adaptec 1542B SCSI controller (w/ BIOS disabled)
- Toshiba TXM3301B CD-ROM drive
- Standard VGA card (Orchid Prodesigner+/512K - ET3000)
- No network
-
-
- Disk partitions:
- 1) PRI DOS 60 MB C: Dos 5.0
- 2) EXT DOS 484 MB D:-I: logical drives
- 3) PRI DOS (NT) 95 MB J: Windows NT
- 4) PRI DOS (NT) 5 MB K: For trying out NTFS
