  16. I sure hope that Tufts is going to teach you better than this.  Oddly
  17. enough, I can drop right out of UNIX to the system monitor on my Sun.
  18. I can do things out there, then continue UNIX.  Does this mean UNIX
  19. isn't an OS, because it has the monitor under it?  Certainly not.

  21. Windows provides all its own device drivers with the exception of disk
  22. drivers for the file services.  It takes over and manages memory.  It
  23. manages the keyboard, mouse, display, etc.  If it also bothered with
  24. doing its own file management, it would BE an OS.

  26. You seem to have a lot of confusion about memory protection, process
  27. isolation, preemptive multitasking, etc., being necessary for
  28. something to qualify as an OS.

  30. As for the 'all else being programs', just what do you think an
  31. operating system is, if it isn't a program?  Bratwurst?
