- Try getting a serial card with a 16550 UART chip(s). With your 486, you
- shouldn't lose anything at all during disk read/writes. I use to lose a few
- characters until I increased my RAM to 8 megs...so now I don't have as many
- disk read/writes...but I still lose some because my machine can't keep up...
- but with a 486...you should be able to launch a couple of applications (at
- least one) without losing anything...(of course, I've only seen the 16550
- used on my 386 and on a 486-50...but I think a 33 MHz machine can handle the
- itself quite nicely).
