- Well, I came into this thread late and am curious -- what is the method for
- cheating (excuse me, "luck" removal :-) in minesweeper?
-
- As for the argument that there is no luck in the game, I agree with the
- statement that, at least at the expert level, one routinely finds situations
- where one cannot logically deduce the location of a mine and is left with
- a 50/50 chance of uncovering it. Here is my attempt to show one such
- example (based on a previous posting):
- . . . . . .
- . m 2 2 m .
- . 2 - - 2 .
- . 2 - - 2 .
- . m 2 2 m .
- . . . . . .
-
- The playing area outside of this "island" is irrelevent only to the extent
- that there are no mines in the "." squares, there are two possible solutions:
-
- m 2 2 m m 2 2 m
- 2 m . 2 2 . m 2
- 2 . m 2 2 m . 2
- m 2 2 m m 2 2 m
-
- And I, at least, cannot see how this situation lends itself to a logical
- deduction. At least twice I've gotten to this sort of situation, the mine
- counter down to 2 and I have to guess -- BOOM, *%$!. Now when I see this
- kind of situation develop I guess right away rather than waste time clearing
- the rest of the minefield only to blow myself up.
-
- I would, of course, only use any method of cheating to avoid these kinds of
- situations ;-)
