- A while back, I posted a request about a RAM disk driver that
- would work under windows.
-
- I got several responses, several of which suggested alternatives
- involving disk caching. While I appreciate the suggestions, my
- situation really requires a RAM drive.
-
- I am running Windows 3.1 under DR DOS 6.0 and have tried four
- RAM disk drivers with the following results:
-
- DRIVER MEMORY USED FOR DISK
- EXTENDED EXPANDED (EMS)
-
- VDISK.SYS doesn't work doesn't work
- (with DR DOS 6.0)
-
- EDISK.SYS (Everex) doesn't work doesn't work
-
- RAMDRIVE.SYS doesn't work doesn't work
- (with MS DOS 3.3)
-
- RAMDRIVE.SYS sorta works doesn't work
- (with MS DOS 5.0)
-
-
- In all the "doesn't work" cases, Windows starts by displaying
- its title screen but does not clear -- the DOS prompt just appears
- in the upper left corner with an invisible cursor. (the "mode 80"
- command restores the screen)
-
- With RAMDRIVE.SYS from MS DOS 5.0, when using extended memory,
- the drive is useable and Windows runs --- but only in Standard Mode.
- It won't run in 386 Enhanced Mode.
-
- Anyone have any other suggestions?
-
- Cal.
