- True, 4DOS *is* a great improvement over COMMAND.COM, one which I can no
- longer live without (yes, I have registered my copy). But I can see how
- some people loathe spending $69 for something so fundamental--filling in
- all the holes in MS-DOS can be an expensive proposition: $69 for 4DOS,
- $99 for Norton Utilities, $xx for FastBack, $55 for QEdit, $46 for
- PKLite, $xx for Viruscan, etc. You can get by without any of these; the
- standard DOS utilities plus some freeware will work nicely. For more money
- you can get more functionality. For some people it isn't worth it, just
- as everyone does not need a 50 MHz 486.
