- That depends on the speed of the RAM chips. On a 386 motherboard, the RAM
- chips are typically rated at 70 or 80 ns., while the ones in your 286 are
- probably rated at 100 ns. (maybe slower). It also depends on the _type_
- of RAM chips. Your 286 probably uses DIP (centipede style) individual RAM
- chips. Newer motherboards all use SIMMs or SIPs, which combine multiple
- chips into "modules" about 1"x3" with an edge style connector (SIMM) or
- pins on one edge (SIP). Check out these two questions.
