- Not disabling write-caching is about as bad a piece of advice as you
- can give someone. I've been a UNIX and DOS systems administrator for
- a number of years and from what I've seen the latest version of SMARTDRV
- has caused more lost data than just about any other piece of software
- on the market. It doesn't matter how careful you are about flushing
- the cache before shutting down if you use write-caching YOU WILL LOSE
- DATA at some point. The small amount of speed gained will not be
- worth it. Advocating write-caching is on par with recommending
- against backups in my book. Sure you'll save some time here and there
- but in the long run ...
