- Essentially, you are advised that (1) the drive should be formatted in its
- operating orientation, and (2) you shouldn't low-level format the drive.
- You have four choices:
- 1. Mount the drive in its most likely orientation and assume that
- the manufacturer formatted it that way.
- 2. Mount the drive any way you please and figure that it will
- probably work just fine anyway.
- 3. Get the necessary software and low-level format the drive yourself.
- 4. Special-order a drive formatted in the orientation you prefer
- (or find a repair shop that will reformat the drive for you).

- Unless you're getting a drive that's really pushing the state of the art,
- option 2 will probably be totally satisfactory. I've never experienced
- an orientation sensitivity in any modern drive small enough to hold in 1 hand.
- On the other hand, I've never had a problem with reformatting IDE drives
- either. Maybe I'm just lucky. Your mileage may vary.
