  15. Regarding Low-level formatting an IDE drive:

  17. One of the reasons I have heard FOR low level formatting is to do things
  18. like re-writing the sectors (putting them back in place to remove potential
  19. problems caused by the heads drifting etc.).  I also heard (a long time
  20. ago) that you should do a LLFormat on a hard drive after you change its
  21. orientation (vertical or horizontal).  These sounded logical.  It has
  22. always bothered me that you can't do this with an IDE.  Are these two things
  23. not necessary for IDE drives, or was the information I was given paranoid?
  24. (IE--neither things are necessary.)
