  28. This is a grossly inappropriate recommendation, which I feel must be
  29. countered.  I would say, DO, repeat DO, rush out and buy it from mt Xinu.

  31. I have been using the mt Xinu product for something like 9 months, now.
  32. I can say most categorically that it is certainly a quality product.  In
  33. fact, I would go so far as to say that it is one of the BETTER quality
  34. products that I have seen on the market for some time.

  36. Consider... buying a commercial product, such as mt Xinu's, means:
  37.  
  38.     - You don't have to port raw stuff to your system - the
  39.       commercial product comes with easy-to-use installation
  40.       software.  (Takes 20-30 minutes to install; compare that
  41.       with doing the Mach net-RPC install.)
  42.  
  43.     - You don't have to port every single subsystem that you
  44.       need - the commercial product comes complete with:
  45.  
  46.         - Mach kernel
  47.         - BSD environment
  48.         - full networking support
  49.         - full on-line documentation
  50.         - X-windows server and full toolkit
  51.         - GNU C compiler
  52.         - many public-domain tools pre-compiled and tested
  53.  
  54.       (Just consider the effort and time you'd need to do it all
  55.       yourself).

  57.       In fact, from mt Xinu, you get more than you do from CMU.
  58.       For example, mt Xinu had Color X support and full SCSI tape
  59.       support before CMU did, I believe.

  61.     - You are getting a stable product.  The *latest* release is
  62.       frequently not the best - all new software takes time to
  63.       shake the bugs out.  mt Xinu only incorporate changes, after
  64.       they're proven.

  66.       On this front, I can say that I am very impressed that the
  67.       software they ship really does work, and it works the way
  68.       I expect it to.  I have found very few bugs.  Those that I
  69.       did encounter were fixed very quickly.

  71.     - You are getting a supported product.  mt Xinu's support has
  72.       been excellent, as far as I'm concerned.  They offer on-line
  73.       updates and information.  They offer very quick turn around
  74.       of any problems you send them.
