- I just succeed in getting Linux installed on my system today. Using
- the 0.97 images from tsx-11 I had only two small problems.
-
- a) it took a couple of tries to get the proper sequence
- using DOS fdisk and Linux fdisk to repartition my hard drive
- sucessfully. DOS does like non-dos partition in the extented
- table very much, so I had to delete all the logical partitions
- and then define the DOS ones first.
-
- b) mkswap refused to accept the first partition (hda5) for some
- reason. I just ignored swapping after that (for the moment atleast).
-
- For the record my configuation is:
-
- 386SX 20 MHz clone w/ 4 Meg RAM - AMI BIOS
- Trident 512K 8900 Super VGA
- 120 Meg Western Digital Hard Drive
- 1.2M 5-1/4 diskette (Drive A)
- 1.4M 3-1/2 diskette (Drive B)
- Logitech serial mouse
- 2 COM ports + 2400/9600 FAX modem on COM3
-
- After my problems with fdisk it set my hard disk partitions as follows:
-
- hda1 - 12 Meg DOS boot
- hda2 - 12 Meg Linux boot
- hda3 - 96 Meg Extended
- hda4 - not used
- hda5 - 16 Meg Linux swap (not used at present)
- hda6 - 32 Meg DOS
- hda7 - 32 Meg DOS
- hda8 - 16 Meg DOS
-
- If you want to know why so may partitions its because I never want to
- have to do the backup to diskette - resinstall senario again for all
- my DOS software.
-
- Today I am a happy bunny, now to re-install Windows & Word Perfect
- on DOS.

- If any given program runs correctly, it is obsolete.
