- First, thanks to everyone who responded. Here's a quick summary of
- non-Internet Linux support:
-
- The Linux Support BBS 508-793-9568 does indeed work. You have to
- connect at 2400, then hit enter a zillion times to get a login prompt.
-
- Two other kind people offered the use of their BBSes as sources of
- Linux-related files. These are the Unix User BBS, 708-879-8633
- (no info given on modem speed, etc.) and the Digital Underground,
- 812-941-9427 v32bis,v32,v42bis,v42. A third person isn't ready to
- go public as a BBS yet, but sent me email offering me dial-up access
- to his Linux box to get files.
-
- Zane Healey (healyz@holonet.net) maintains a Linux BBS list, which
- should be available in alt.bbs.lists. It mentions some commercial
- on-line services (GEnie, Compuserve, etc.) that have at least some
- Linux files, and that you can also get them from most Fidonet BBSes.
-
- Lastly, the MegaFAQ (recently posted here) explains how to ftp for
- files via e-mail, if you don't have direct Internet access.
-
- After all this, I've discovered that I do have Internet access through a
- system at work- I just had to start asking questions and find the right
- person to talk to (you have to use a particular path to get past our
- own private company Ethernet onto the Internet).
