-
- I can't help regarding getting you the stuff, but I can tell you that
- you can get Linux up as a functioning news/mail/uucp system.
-
- I have the following up on my system (096c or 097apl2, depends on my mood):
-
- (From mailpak v1.1 I think)
- ===========================
- - Taylor UUCP (HoneyDanBer mode)
- - elm2.3pl11
- - smail2.5
-
- (From me via anon-ftp)
- ======================
- - Cnews 122191 patchlevel (current not including the spring
- speed-up interim patches)
- - Tin 1.1pl4
-
- Compiling uucp/cnews/tin was a breeze. I had trouble with elm under
- linux, so I grabbed mailpak (thanks Ed...). smail is listed in the uucp
- stuff as v3.1, but it's really v2.5 . The makefile is all messed up for
- smail, but it's a quickie to compile and install by hand.
-
- I hear that the past kernel problems with serial i/o dropping characters
- has been fixed (I'll see Monday when my 14.4 modem comes in (whoopee!)).
-
- uucp has trouble with not punting when it encounters a busy signal.
- word (from Ed? I forget) is that it's being worked on for a future patch.
-
- Regarding C-news, if you have it compiled on other platforms, you won't
- have any trouble with Linux...same for tin.
-
- [...editorial note - would anybody want a patched-up, ready to compile
- version of C-news uploaded to one of the archive sites ? I'd
- be willing to do that, or upload my 'build.def' file if anybody
- needs to see how to define things...]
