- After some effort I got linux to boot on my 486 clone from floppys.
- I set up some partitions on my disk for linux, rebooted & ran the
- install program, (partation hd3).
-
- 1) I'ld like to be able to boot linux from the hard disk but am
- confused about what to do. The install program said something about
- modifying a word in the boot(root?) image, and on the net i read
- something about LILO. Please explain - the LILO README wasn't very
- helpful.
-
- 2). Right now I'm running on a SUN. To get linux files I have to
- go through ftpmail (not terribly convenient, but it works). It's
- got a 3.5" disk that I can write to. What's a good way to get
- linux sources from the net and on to my 486? I tried dd'ing
- files from the sun onto the diskette & then back off but that
- didn`t work - linux side dd didn't find an end of file and read
- more than it should have.
- Remember, all I have are rootimage & bootimage and i boot from the 3.5
- diskette.
-
- 3) Any suggestions on setting up a swap file or swap partition? I
- hope to be running X on this machine. What size of swap space might
- I need?
