- For those seeking Maryland Steamed Crabs here is a small list of the
- restaurants that I know of.
-
- Connoley's Pratt St @ Pier 4(?)
- This is the best of the Crab and Seafood houses on the Inner
- Harbor. From the Sheraton, cross over to HarborPlace and start walking
- toward the World Trade Center Building, keep going past the Aquarium
- and the old Power Plant. Just beyond the Power Plant (on Pratt St)
- there is a small restaurant tucked between the road and the parking lots
- and the concert pavillion. You've found it.
- IMO, better and cheaper than the high profile restaurants in the
- HarborPlace complex.
-
- Phillips, HarborPlace
- It is truly amazing to me that *in* the HarborPlace, I had
- trouble finding Maryland Steamed Crabs. It may have improved, but
- Phillips was about the only place were they were occasionally available
- (though overpriced).
-
- (General HarborPlace Comments)
- HarborPlace is stuffed with restaurants and shops, featuring a
- wide variety of cuisines. It is the closest food venue to the Sheraton.
- Access is via a pedestrian bridge over Pratt Street directly from the
- hotel area. Some of the places offer real seating, but most are mall
- style food court places with tables and stand-ups and other perches
- shared by all. You pay your money and take your chances/choices.
-
- Further afield.
-
- Beau Brooks, BelAir Road
-
- I don't remember the exact directions for getting from the
- Harbor to BelAir Road, but a call should provide the directions.
- This is a "big name" Crab House and is a little overpriced for
- the quality and quantity the last time I was there (2 years ago.)
-
- Gordons, Reisterstown Road, Pikesville
- Backfin, Reisterstown Road, Pikesville
-
- These two restaurants are way up north of Baltimore, just beyond
- the northwest corner of the city limits. Taking the Falls Expressway to
- Towson and then heading "west" on the beltway to Reisterstown Road and
- heading a few blocks back into town will bring you into the main
- commercial district of Pikesville. The Backfin is 4 (or 5?) traffic
- lights down on the right, and Gordons is a block or two further on the
- left.
- I prefer the Crabs at the Backfin, and other seafood is better
- at Gordons. The Backfin was still there last year.
-
- There are also lots of bars and taverns that offer decent
- steamed crabs around the area.
-
- I was planning to be at the conference, but the scheduling got scrambled
- at the last minutes before the hotel deadline so I'm out of luck for
- this year (damn damn damn). My mate is a Baltimore area native, so I
- got pretty familiar with the area for a while :-)
