  25. That is fine, that really isn't our point. All we are trying to point
  26. out is that, all things being equal, it helps Usenix put on these
  27. shows if you stay in the conference hotel since we have to promise
  28. room blocks to reserve space for attendees, and the larger the room
  29. blocks we promise and actually fill the more the hotel reduces our
  30. other expenses (e.g. for meeting room space.) This ultimately is
  31. reflected in member benefits and conference fees etc.

  33. But we don't expect anyone to hurt themselves doing this, it's more a
  34. matter of a situation where you were going to spend a similar amount
  35. on a room nearby for perhaps some less important reason, we just ask
  36. you consider that our organization (it is a membership organization)
  37. does derive some benefit from people staying at the main hotel, and
  38. this helps us keep prices down etc. We just wanted people to be aware
  39. of this, I am sure many thought it didn't matter to Usenix where an
  40. attendee stayed.

  42. But if you are in a situation where you are a student or whatever
  43. please don't pay it any mind. It's more important to us that you show
  44. up at all, getting you the information you need is the real point of
  45. this exercise, everything else is merely details and suggestions.
