  28. I've never seen Phil actually say anything about the list---just post
  29. it.  Having actively followed it for over four years, and archived it
  30. for over a year at Widener (it's still being maintained there), I have
  31. the utmost respect for both Phil and the effort nixpub represents.

  33. I have to remark on something that's always bothered me, particularly
  34. after having gone through it myself.  Phil is providing a FREE
  35. service, in his own time.  There's absolutely nothing in this world
  36. binding him to performing it, beyond his understanding that there's a
  37. definite need for the stuff he's collecting.  People incessantly
  38. bitching about the inadequacies of freely available information really
  39. angers me.  That's like stopping by a spring in Maine to fill up from
  40. a tap bearing the sign "free spring water," only to complain to the
  41. landowner that they should make sure it's purified better, cuz it just
  42. didn't taste right.

  44.    Would you want to speculate as to how many OTHER sites there are besides
  45.    our two?

  47. Then start your own list, contact all of those other sites, maintain
  48. it, and distribute it.  If nixpub is so badly composed as you claim,
  49. then your list should gain immediate acceptance.  But spite's not the
  50. point---improving the breadth and quality of information available is.
  51. If you have a better way, then do it, don't complain someone else's is
  52. inadequate.

  54. Someone had been posting a list of "other" open systems, but their
  55. name escapes me.  I haven't seen it in a bit; some digging should make
  56. it turn up---perhaps they'll be willing to include dixie.com without
  57. disclosing the phone number.
