  26. I think that I found the problem that I was having here, and it seems
  27. to be my fault... I will let you all know when S. Sobol tries his Coherent
  28. system again.

  30. basically, the Intel 2400ex was trying to get "reliable" connections from
  31. everyone, and if it didn't, it would hang up the phone. Ooops. I added a 
  32. \\N3 (I think) to the modem initialization string, and this seems to have
  33. done the trick for the Smailpc system (seldon.clv.oh.us).

  35. Since the other two machines that have been dialing into my system have
  36. been using MNP modems (well... actually a couple Telebit's and a USR dual
  37. standard), I didn't see the problem previously.

  39. Solved all of this by getting out my trusty VT100 and a vanilla Supra
  40. 2400 modem, and dialing in by hand. I wasn't getting a CD (carrier detect)
  41. light on the Intel modem, even though the Supra thought that it did. 
  42. A bit of trial and error, and I found the switch for the MNP.

  48. Coherent may... it might just be your modem :-). Give it another go,
  49. and lets see what we get!
