- Subject: Serious problem with sendmail on NeXT...

- Here on campus we are using several Charon gateways to send mail from our PC
- networks. They use a NeXT as their smart mail host so that they forward all
- mail to a NeXT to be sent out over the internet. Usually this works just
- fine, but we have had a few problems with that in the past. The sendmail
- system on the NeXT seems to lock up sometimes and just fill the queue with a
- bunch of messages that are blank and have no control file or anything. But,
- we now have a more serious problem:
-
- We have stuff in the queue for over a week now (nearing two weeks) and it is
- not emptying the queue. The mail addresses are just fine, but it just stops
- sending any mail out. The version of sendmail is gives this when I do a
- telnet to port 25:
-
- 220 kolob.byu.edu Sendmail 5.65c/4.03 ready at Wed, 2 Sep 1992 10:17:30 -0600
-
- I guess that isn't IDA sendmail. I don't know. I have tried setting the
- queue emptying to every minute, 10 minutes, 15 minutes, but it never gets rid
- of the over 270 messages in the queue. It just keeps building. Does anyone
- have a solution? This situation is CRITICAL!
