- I am a somewhat experienced sendmail hack. I can read .cf files and I've
- written a fairly successful .cf package for UUCP users. On the other hand I
- don't know one tenth what Neil does, because I'm totally unfamiliar with the
- sendmail source.
-
- Now I'm getting a Sun running 4.1.2 (or 4.1.3, haven't decided yet), and I'm
- concerned about vague recollections of sun sendmail bugs. Do they still exist?
- What are they?
-
- This sun will be handling a _very_ large amount of UUCP and SMTP mail-
- thousands of messages a day now, and probably five times that a year from
- now. I need as close to absolute reliability as I can get. Given that, should
- I stick with sun's sendmail or switch to IDA?
-
- In either case, what should I use for a .cf file? If I have one that works
- really well for SMTP and basic UUCP, I can hack on it to make it do the extra
- UUCP stuff I do, like subdomain mail forwarding. So what I really need is an
- ultra-stable basic SMTP and UUCP .cf.
-
- In case it matters, I'm not using NIS (YP), but I might want to a year from
- now. Still, if that's a showstopper, I'd rather get something working now and
- worry about YP later. I _will_ be running a nameserver (BIND). I plan to use
- the stock Sun named unless I'm told that there's a good reason not to. I need
- to hold wildcard MX records, in case that matters.
-
- I'm also not terribly concerned with site-hiding right now. I'd be interested
- in hearing about options, but I believe I know how to write rules for that once
- I decide I need it (again, this won't be for a year, at least).
-
- Thanks in advance for any help I receive. If there's sufficient interest I'll
- summarize, and perhaps write a new .cf configuration package for this new type
- of configuration like the one I did for UUCP-only sites.
