- We are having a problem with mail routing that apprently the
- administrators at the University are unable to correct. Hopefully,
- someone might have an idea of where they can look to get this problem
- solved.
-
- What is happening is that when mail is routed through the University,
- the To: From: and even Reply-To: headers are being changed (mangled would
- be a better word). The result is that when the recipent gets the message
- and tries to reply to it, the headers are malformed and cause the messages
- to bounce.
-
- My first question is why would these headers need to be changed in the
- first place? In most cases, the addresses are domain style easily
- accessible addresses.
-
- Why the Reply-To header is also changed doesn't make any sense as I
- always thought that this header was intended to go though unschathed.
-
- The University is using ULTRIX V4.2 (Rev. 96) and apparently is using
- sendmail.
-
- This problem has been identified since at least January and several
- attempts have been made by their administrators to correct the problem
- without sucess.
