- Hi Everybody,
-
- Subject: The decryption does not take place, properly in ELM 2.3 PL11.
-
- Recently I found a problem with encrypted mail. To me it looks like
- BUG (though not sure). Some times if you have a encrypted message
- the decryption does not take place properly.
-
- The inability to decrypt a message depends upon the encryption key you
- are using and the content of message.
-
- I tried many combinations of encoded messages and encryption keys. In
- many cases the decryption does take place properly with one encryption
- key and not for another key.
-
- I created a simple 20 line file with just one character in the
- beginning of line, say 'A'. I gave the encryption key "aaa", as given
- below :
-
- [encode]
- A
- A
- A
- .
- .
- A
- [clear]
-
- I sent this mail to myself with encryption key "aaa", and read the
- mail with decryption key "aaa".
- When I read this mail, I got first 12 lines properly and others were
- junk characters, like %, J, Y, * etc.
-
- I changed the encryption keys, many times. Observed
- that it works for some keys and not for others.
-
- Sometimes the file size which is encoded also decides this factor.
-
- I am not able to understand in what circumstances this decryption
- fails. However, I have not noticed this problem when every line has
- more then one 'A's. The problems reoccurs when alternate lines are one
- character long.
-
- Has anybody seen this problem? Is this a BUG or a FAQ ?
