  17.     Subject: The decryption does not take place, properly in ELM 2.3 PL11.

  19.     Recently I found a problem with encrypted mail. To me it looks like
  20.     BUG (though not sure). Some times if you have a encrypted message
  21.     the decryption does not take place properly.

  23.     The inability to decrypt a message depends upon the encryption key you
  24.     are using and the content of message.
  25.  
  26.     I tried many combinations of encoded messages and encryption keys. In
  27.     many cases the decryption does take place properly with one encryption
  28.     key and not for another key.

  30.     I created a simple 20 line file with just one character in the
  31.     beginning of line, say 'A'. I gave the encryption key "aaa", as given
  32.     below :

  35.     A
  36.     A
  37.     A
  38.     .
  39.     .
  40.     A
  41.     [clear]
  42.  
  43.     I sent this mail to myself with encryption key "aaa", and read the
  44.     mail with decryption key "aaa".
  45.     When I read this mail, I got first 12 lines properly and others were
  46.     junk characters, like %, J, Y, * etc.

  48.     I changed the encryption keys, many times. Observed
  49.     that it works for some keys and not for others.

  51.     Sometimes the file size which is encoded also decides this factor.

  53.     I am not able to understand in what circumstances this decryption
  54.     fails. However, I have not noticed this problem when every line has
  55.     more then one 'A's. The problems reoccurs when alternate lines are one
  56.     character long.

  58.     Has anybody seen this problem? Is this a BUG or a FAQ ?
