- When you say "no" to the "Edit outgoing message?" question, elm
- composes your message this way:
-
- ----------
- Forwarded message:
- >From blah blah blah
- >Other:
- >Headers:
-
- body of message
- ----------
-
- This may be dependent on the value of noheaders in your elmrc, I'm not
- sure but I don't think so. In any case, the important thing to note
- is that the first line after "Forwarded message:" is a From_ line in
- legal Unix mailbox format. If this message were to arrive in
- someone's mailbox, their mailer would recognize that line as the start
- of a message, EXCEPT, that From_ line has a ">" quoting prefix at the
- beginning. If for some reason that quoting prefix were left out, this
- would cause the behavior you describe.
-
- To ferret this one out, you might try forwarding a message, answering
- no to "Edit outgoing message?", but then, when presented with the
- menu, choose E)dit instead of S)end. Then, you will be able to edit
- the message before it goes out. If the From_ line doesn't have a > at
- the beginning, add one. Then, send out the message, and see what
- happens. If the recipient's mailer still sees it as two separate
- messages, check his/her incoming mailbox manually (using cat, more, or
- something like that) and see if the > got preserved. If it did, his
- MUA has problems recognizing valid From_ lines. If not, then
- something weird is happening in the transfer.
