  15. we have implemented a compiler which translates term rewriting systems 
  16. into C. In order to get insight into the efficiency of the generated code
  17. we are creating a suite of benchmarks in several related languages, such
  18. as prolog. For this purpose we need a fast implementation of prolog, 
  19. preferably public domain, and somewhat widely used. From a limited test,
  20. we established that SBProlog is not suitable; it ran more than three
  21. times as slow as Quitus (on that example). Quintus is no longer accessible 
  22. to us. Our questions are:

  24.     - Who knows a faster ftp-able public domain prolog implementation
  25.     - Is there a commercial prolog available to us for this purpose 
  26.       (preferable here at cwi)
