- I feel sort of silly, but on the "last attempt" I changed one thing, and
- it compiled and tested perfectly.

- I used the hints, strchr instead of index, perl's malloc and -g for
- optimization. The only change was the -g versus no optimizing. And,
- it worked. Ah well, as slow as that 386 is, it is at least running
- perl, like all good Unix systems should :-)
