- From INTERNET Re: Yeah, what's a good CDRom drive?
-
- I don't own one yet, but I've been looking around ever since
- I heard that MCL 2.0f was gonna have the CDRom disk with lots
- of neat stuff on it.
-
- From what I've seen, the new NEC CDR-74 looks like the best
- (read: fastest) one around (average access time of 280ms),
- and from reports is very reliable.
-
- Club Mac (1-800-258-2622) and EduCorp (1-800-843-9497) both
- advertise the CDR-74 in MacWeek for around $630 with the
- "gallery bundle" which includes 7 disks (about 3 of which are
- actually worth while), speakers and headphones, or $570
- without the bundle -- obviously the bundle is the deal!
-
- By the way, I ended up simply transfering (using a friend's
- CDRom) about 70 Megabytes to a Syquest 88 removable, and am
- using that for my LISP programming environment.
-
- I hate disclaimers, but I definately have nothing to do with
- ANY of the companies mentioned above.
