  13. I'm looking for some suggestions of possible solutions.

  15.  We have a need to scan 11"x17" map sheets for use with a program called
  16. LT Plus, which is from the forestry service.
  17.  
  18.  We can borrow the use of a scanner right now that we know works.
  19. However it's somewhat of an inconvenience, and we'd need to purchase
  20. this card from Houston Instruments for $2500 to make it work.
  21.  
  22.  We've been searching for alternatives.  For $750 we can purchase
  23. an HP B&W Scanjet, and scan the sheets in two parts.
  24.  However, the software that comes with the Scanjet only supports standard
  25. DOS graphics formats like PCX and TIFF.
  26.  
  27.  LT Plus doesn't like any of these.  I'm not familiar with any of the ones
  28. LT Plus supports, but they are:

  30.  .gis  .optr9  .ras  .rlc  .rstr  .rle1
  31.  
  32.  We're looking for a solution.  A scanner which will do 11"x17" sheets would
  33. be ideal.  Or software to drive the Scanjet and produce one of the above
  34. formats.  Or software which will convert pcx, tiff, or anything the scanjet
  35. supports to one of the formats that LT Plus supports.

  37.  Our goal would be to spend less than $2500 on any hardware/software
  38. combination.  We can use software under Ultrix, SCO Unix, or MS-DOS.

  40.  In the meantime we'll keep looking around.  Any help would be appreciated.
