  37. Sisal (Streams and Iterations in a Single-Assignment Language) is a general-
  38. purpose functional language that supports the development of determinate, 
  39. machine-independent parallel software. The Sisal project has achieved 
  40. significant successes over the past nine years, in many areas of computer 
  41. science and parallel computing. Among these are the development of the Sisal 
  42. language and the IF1 intermediate dataflow graph representation, the 
  43. implementation of a runtime system for parallel execution on conventional 
  44. shared memory computers, optimizations for functional languages, the 
  45. achievement of Fortran-like performance, and the establishment of the Sisal 
  46. Scientific Computing Initiative. The latter of these has involved researchers 
  47. from many areas of science and engineering in the use of Sisal as an 
  48. application programming language. In this meeting we will discuss uses of the 
  49. language, the current state of the project, and its future directions.

  51. Who Should Attend?
  52.  
  53. All Sisal users, implementers, and researchers, and those who are interested 
  54. in the Sisal language or functional programming are invited to attend this 
  55. meeting. We also welcome those involved in the various other aspects of 
  56. parallel computing.

  58. Call for Papers
  59.  
  60. We invite submissions of extended abstracts of five to ten pages in length by 
  61. August 15, 1992. Decisions on acceptance will be made by September 1, 1992. 
  62. Full papers will be due at the conference, and will appear in a published 
  63. proceedings. Suggested topics include (but are not limited to) the following:

  67. *    Sisal execution platforms
  68. *    Sisal applications
  69. *    Sisal programming tools
  70. *    Research involving IF1
  71. *    Functional languages

  78. The cost of this conference is $150, and includes lunches both days and a 
  79. reception the first night. Guest lunch tickets are available.
