  15. What with the two disasters on our hands -- the fire in California and
  16. the damage caused by Hurricane Andrew, I was wondering if people
  17. located in those areas who have power and telephone service and
  18. receive the Digest could keep us posted on the efforts to recover from
  19. these calamaties.

  21. My sympathies go to those living in those areas and hope that their
  22. losses are minimal which unfortunately aren't.

  29. [Moderator's Notes: Very little word is coming in or out of Dade
  30. County, and the news that is reaching us is horrible. The town of
  31. Homestead, with 30,000 residents was wiped out of existence. Utility
  32. poles and wires are laying on the ground in a jumble, ripped and torn
  33. from their poles, etc. Utility service will not be fully restored for
  34. many weeks. I forward articles to comp.dcom.telecom using nntpxmit
  35. through several sites including cs.miami.edu, and they have not
  36. responded to telnet since Monday. I sincerely hope that telecom people
  37. everywhere will rally to the support of Dade County. The California
  38. disaster is of equal concern right now but to some extent was over-
  39. shadowed by the enormity of Andrew's fury this week.  And now we have
  40. Louisiana to deal with ... so much to do. Please take a few minutes on
  41. Thursday and help out however you can: Florida, Louisiana, California.
