  16. At about 10:45 AM this morning, a major malfunction in US West's 135th
  17. St. office resulted in the disruption of 3/4 of the phones served from
  18. the CO, according to the {Omaha World-Herald}.  At press time, the
  19. exact cause was not known, but a US West spokesman stated that it was
  20. probably a problem with the switching or computer equipment.

  22. Television station WOWT reported that 'It was a computer error and not
  23. a cable cut' and that service was restored in the late afternoon.
  24. (The map shown by the station GREATLY exaggerated the area of the
  25. outage, showing large areas to the east and south of the area served
  26. by that office.)

  28. The 135th St. office serves some 33x and all 69x prefixes in the Omaha
  29. area.  I've been told by an 'insider' that it is a #5 ESS <tm>.
  30. Ironically, both the west Omaha US West office (which includes
  31. residential service reps) and some of AT&T's offices are served out of
  32. 135th and were shut down.  Non-emergency lines to the Douglas County
  33. Sheriff's office were out, but 911 was said to be in service during
  34. the outage.

  36. The CLID log on DRBBS shows a call from the 330 office at 10:24 AM
  37. with no other calls from the affected COs since.  Calls from the
  38. surrounding offices appear to be coming through with no trouble.
