- We are having problems getting two of our routers to speak to each other via
- RS-449 interfaces through fiber optic modems. The first router is an AGS+
- running 8.3(3) with (4) MCI cards of varying revision (we're using the board
- with v1.7 microcode). The second router is an IGS running 9.0(1). Both
- routers have DTE appliques.
-
- The modems are Optical Data Systems ODS219 with DCE interfaces and set for a
- data rate of 64 kbps. The modem path has been thoroughly checked out with a
- data analyzer, running both local and remote loopbacks from both ends.
-
- When the routers are connected back-to-back with a Black Box modem eliminator,
- the link comes up and operates fine. When the fiber optic modems are
- connected, the links stay down, however the control lines from the router do
- talk to the modem (e.g. when the router interface is set to loopback, the local
- modem automatically switches to local loopback mode). We've tried various
- switch combinations of master and slave clocking on the modems with no success.
-
- Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks,
-
