- Thank you for all the beloved flames. Let me air them out
- a little bit.
-
- Yes, I am aware of the fact that CCITT is not part of the
- US goverment. Yes, I know ANSI is not part of the US government.
-
- I also know that both organizations do receive funding from
- various goverments.
-
- Most of you flamed me more on the facts of cost, copyright, and
- and business point of view.
-
- I, as a scientist, do not tend to look at the business side of
- things (which makes my projects run over budget all the time).
-
- On the other hand I do feel that some things must be available to
- everyone free, or at least for a reasonable price. We have
- invented, and invent every day so many things that would make
- this great country even better than it is. Unfortunatelly, large
- companies that might be effected by the pattent/copyright of such
- ideas, buy them and let them collect dust in old basements.
-
- Some of you mention price of the ink, paper, printing. The
- average retail price of an engineering book with 600 pages, soft
- cover is around 50 to 80 dollars.
-
- Some of you say that copyrighted material doesn't have to be
- public knowledge. Yes. Very much true. On the other hand, look
- at the facts: the less information is released, the fewer things
- will support it. This _is_ business sense (even though I have
- none).
-
- As some of you suggested it, I would be satisfied with the fax
- commands to come with fax/modem devices, from their manufacturers.
-
- And as the last note, thank you all for your "delightful" flames.
- I learned a lot of new words, and places where I could go. I
- also found out that I have an Oedipus complex, interestingly,
- from people I have never met.
-
- Thanks,
