- Is Anchor Automation, in Chatsworth California, still in
- business? I have written to them twice, but received no reply.
-
- I am currently using their Patriot 2400i internal modem.
- Occasionally this modem acts like a miniature radio receiver.
- Although the modem quietly emits voices and music, this
- irritating behavior does not seem otherwise to disrupt the modem.
- Even so, I would like to silence the modem.
-
- I have tried wrapping the RJ-11 connecting cord (ten turns)
- through a large ferrite core. This trick may have helped
- somewhat, but has not by any means solved the problem.
-
- I am handy with a soldering iron and am prepared to make
- hardware modifications to the modem if someone can tell me how.
- Would soldering small capacitors from each of the input leads to
- ground on the printed circuit board help? If so, what values
- should I use for these capacitors? Would breaking the leads and
- inserting RF chokes help? Again, what values? Should I use a
- combination of capacitors and chokes? (Sorry I don't know the
- input impedance of the modem.)
-
- Is modifying a modem in this manner legal in Canada?
-
- Any help would be most welcome.
-
- I notice that other persons who post messages to the Net
- standardly include a disclaimer. Although this seems to me to be
- an obsessive precaution, I will follow suit and declare that any
- opinions expressed in this posting are my own (and my children's)
- and not those of my employer. (Can you really imagine that my
- employer has a [corporate] opinion as to whether my modem acts
- like a miniature radio receiver?)
