- Neither can MNP5, but at least V.42 is smart enough to see that it'll be
- making the file *bigger*, and quit trying.

- GIF and ZIP files are essentially uncompressable. Your modem *certainly*
- doesn't have the horsepower to do it. *Never* count on V.42 or MNP making
- a significant difference in transmission time.
