- To open a Supra external modem, you need to remove the two screws on
- the bottom, and then remove one of the plastic end caps. You will
- probably also have to unscrew the power switch handle on the front
- panel. Once you remove one of the end caps, it becomes very easy to
- just slide the PC board out of the case. Be careful with the V.32bis
- FAXmodem, since it has components surface-mounted on both sides of the
- PC board. Also be careful that you correctly reassemble it; this
- modem has a voltage regulator on the bottom of the PC board that gets
- *very* hot. That chip has a small heatsink on it, which is supposed
- to contact the metal case and thus heatsink the chip to the case. If
- you do not reassemble the modem with the voltage regulator's heatsink
- touching the inside of the case, it will probably get too hot and blow
- up after operating for a few hours.
-
- However, you don't need to open the modem to determine the ROM
- revision. Just use the ATI3 command.
