  11. My phone line went dead for a few days, and I couldn't figure out why.  I
  12. unplugged my modem, and the phones worked.  Apparently, the modem had
  13. failed to restore the line when it disconnected from whatever machine
  14. I had been communicating with.  The modem continues to function properly
  15. except that I can't leave it plugged into the phone line.  I have to
  16. plug it in to originate a call, and dial before the dial tone drops.  
  17. Leaving it to work with BYE is, of course, out of the question.  I know 
  18. I can pick up a new modem like this for a paltry sum, but I'm pretty broke, 
  19. and I don't want to spend money unless I need to.  Any advice?  I have never 
  20. opened the case, for fear of destroying it...I'm not even sure it unscrews, 
  21. but I guess it does.  Help if you can!  Thanks in advance...
