- 1) When installing Oracle v6 on a Sun, does anyone have any particular
- gotchas to watch out for? We will want to transfer a v5 DOS Oracle
- database to the Sun. We didn't do the DOS install, so it will be
- our first Oracle installation.
-
- 2) I'm having a hard time getting a straight answer from our local
- Oracle rep on this. When using SQL*ReportWriter from a DOS client,
- what kind of workload balance is there between the client and the
- Sun server? (We aren't writing any embedded SQL commands for now).
- When doing a query, will the client form it in such a way that all
- the work is done on the server or will a lot of intermediate data
- get sent back to the client for processing there? We are concerned
- about LAN bridge bandwidth limitations (19.2K bps) to remote sites
- and client processing power (mostly '286).
-
- 3) What alternative report generation programs would you recommend?
- Besides basic reports, there will be some need for trend analysis
- in future.
-
- Thanks,
- Mark J. McIntosh <Mark.McIntosh@engr.UVic.CA>
