- Mr. Mathews:
-
- Both Informix and Oracle are represented on a group which is deciding on
- RDBMS standards, the X/OPEN SQL Access Group. Informix has taken a strong
- stand on implementing these, apparently, and Oracle v. 6.0 seems to
- implement more of what is considered to be "standard SQL" than Informix's
- OnLine v. 4.0, so both companies should produce implementations along
- the line identified by the X/OPEN Group.
-
- This having been said, I don't know how the salesman can say that
- "Informix [will] soon be the new RDBMS standard on top of Oracle"--they
- are moving toward a common SQL implementation...
-
- There is a VA office of X/OPEN, if you'd like more information:
-
- Suite 670, 3141 Fairview Park Dr.,
- Falls Church VA
- Phone (703) 876-0044 Fax 876-0050
-
- I obtained some information about the SQL Access Group from John
- Robertson of Hewlett-Packard, who is the chair of the group; there was
- a write-up of the Group's activities in a trade magazine (earlier this
- year).

- My boss was recently told by a salesman that Informix would soon be the new
- RDBMS standard on top of Oracle. Needless to say, she asked me to investigate.
- I have not been able to find very much written on Informix. Could anyone
- give me their 2 cents, and/or point me to a good source of info?
-
- Thanks,
