- Oracle version 6.0.33 on SCO Unix (386)or SunOS
- is very simple to install. It took me about 3 hours to
- install it the first time from floppies (lot of them!)
- including running the install both as "root" and as "oracle".
-
- Now, after learning Oracle better I can install it from scratch
- on a 486 in about 15 minutes (after reading the media).
-
- Oracle version 6 is one of the most stable programs of
- genre I've EVER run on a SCO box.
-
- Further, it only took about 2 hours to install version 7
- on a Sun Clone from a remote mounted CD-ROM while another
- version 6 instance was running.
-
- Oracle has its good and bad points, but it is definitely
- a rock solid piece of software that you can bet your business
- on.
-
- P.S. It also helps if you know your O/S well. For instance,
- fiddling with /etc/passwd under SCO is not a good way to create
- users (like on a Sun) because of the tcb stuff -- rather
- use sysadmsh and /tcb/bin/authck.
