  37. Sisal (Streams and Iterations in a Single-Assignment Language) is a
  38. general-purpose functional language that supports the development of
  39. determinate, machine-independent parallel software. The Sisal project has
  40. achieved significant successes over the past nine years, in many areas of
  41. computer science and parallel computing. Among these are the development
  42. of the Sisal language and the IF1 intermediate dataflow graph
  43. representation, the implementation of a runtime system for parallel
  44. execution on conventional shared memory computers, optimizations for
  45. functional languages, the achievement of Fortran-like performance, and the
  46. establishment of the Sisal Scientific Computing Initiative. The latter of
  47. these has involved researchers from many areas of science and engineering
  48. in the use of Sisal as an application programming language. In this
  49. meeting we will discuss uses of the language, the current state of the
  50. project, and its future directions.

  52. Who Should Attend?
  53.  
  54. All Sisal users, implementers, and researchers, and those who are
  55. interested in the Sisal language or functional programming are invited to
  56. attend this meeting. We also welcome those involved in the various other
  57. aspects of parallel computing.

  59. Call for Papers
  60.  
  61. We invite submissions of extended abstracts of five to ten pages in length
  62. by August 15, 1992. Decisions on acceptance will be made by September 1,
  63. 1992. Full papers will be due at the conference, and will appear in a
  64. published proceedings. Suggested topics include (but are not limited to)
  65. the following:

  69. *    Sisal execution platforms
  70. *    Sisal applications
  71. *    Sisal programming tools
  72. *    Research involving IF1
  73. *    Functional languages

  80. The cost of this conference is $150, and includes lunches both days and a 
  81. reception the first night. Guest lunch tickets are available.
