- Hi all.
-
- I am trying to find a good high-quality Bulletin Boards System (BBS) to
- replace the current software that we are using on our UNIX box. Does
- anyone know of, or able to give me information about what they consider to be
- good software, both from a user perspective as well as maintainence from
- a sysop point of view.
-
- Both shareware or commercial software would be considered.
-
- We currently have available to our userbase, Usenet, Clarinet and a selection
- of fidonet newsgroups. These are available through several newsreaders
- which may be selected by the users. Namely TRN, RN and TASS. We use
- ELM as our mailer front end.
-
- The Unix system is:
-
- Interactive Unix SYS V 3.2 3.0. Running on a Zenith 386/33.
- We also have BSD386 on another system and are considering moving our
- entire operations over to it.
-
- Any software considered must support:
-
- 1. At least TRN (Threaded type newsreader) or allow us to make it available
- to users via an external function. User must be able to save news
- articles and later download them via modem.
-
- 2. Have an excellant user interface for e-mail, allowing messages to be
- saved to a file or folders and accessed again later or downloaded. Also
- users must be able to upload messages via a modem to be e-mailed out.
-
- 3. Support user accounting. By this I mean that we need some sort of
- method of keeping track of users that have subscribed to the services
- we offer and that will automatically change there access level once
- that subscription period has expired. This would need to include some
- sort of on-line questionnaire that users can fill in to gain access to
- the subscription services we have available.
-
- 4. Private user groups for different groups who wish to set up there own
- private conferences and a means for a group member to be able to act
- as a sysop for this particular group. i.e. to add users when necessay.
-
- 5. A comprehensive multi-level files area.
-
- 6. Source-code would be necessary so that we can build in extra local
- requirements.
-
- If you know of anything that might fit this discription I would appreciate
- hearing from you. If I receive enough feedback I will be happy to
- summarize my findings to this newsgroup.
