-
- Gopher for UNIX, server and client and other goodies is now available.
-
- To get it:
-
- anonymous ftp to boombox.micro.umn.edu, get the fine
- /pub/gopher/Unix/gopher1.03.tar.Z
-
- Use gopher to go connect to boombox (one way is through Info about
- Gopher, Gopher Software Distribution, Unix, gopher1.03.tar.Z)
-
- Mostly bug fixes, with a few nifty new features, including binary
- transfer for WAIS stuff, support for type I (the official gopher image
- type.).
-
- I've also added a nifty indexing script in misc/Indexing that works
- quite well for making WAIS indices.
-
- Here are the changes:
-
- Client Changes from v1.02 to v1.03
- ----------------------------------
-
- The client can now interrupt searches using Control-c. However this
- can be buggy. The current position on the screen isn't quite updated
- properly, and things will probably break if you're reading a long
- directory....
-
- Gopher now looks in the "Name" instead of the "path" to find a default
- name to save in.. Works for WAIS docid things.
-
- Client can now view images. There is a new environment variable
- GOPHER_IMAGE. It's a little different than the patch that's already
- out there.
-
- Searches in a menu (the / command) are now case insensitive.
-
- PagerCommand is now saved. PAGER still takes precedence, though.
-
- Fixed bogus out of memory error when mailing a file.
-
- Added casts to each and every malloc();
-
- Changed name of PC binary files to PCBIN instead of HQX, confusing at
- best...
-
-
- Server Changes from v1.02 to v1.03
- ----------------------------------
-
- Added lost+found and lib to the list of directories mapped out.
- Eventually this will be replaced by a gopherd.conf file.
-
- gopherls will now list out the correct host, instead of NULL.
-
- Binary files now work for the ftp-gateway in the server.
- (mahilata@vogon.mathi.uni-heidelberg.de) Added Image and sound support
- to the gateway as well.
-
- You no longer have to play with the Path= portion in a .cap entry if
- you want something to be treated as a binary (9) or Search (7).
- The server does it right.
-
- Server recognizes gifs as Type I irregardless of extension.
-
- WAIS searches can now return binary type data. For now it's just
- returned as Type 9. However Type I and s can be hacked in pretty
- easily.
