  13. I am a beginning Ph.D. student in search of a research topic in computer
  14. architecture (CA).  What are some largely unexplored areas in CA that
  15. have lots of possibilities?  I was thinking of looking into the design
  16. of instruction sets: what combination of instructions is the "optimum"
  17. set for a particular application - and how does the choice of application
  18. affect the final result?

  20. If anyone has some starting references, I'd appreciate the help as I
  21. search through the university library...

  23. Also, I haven't really decided on instruction set design, so any ideas
  24. as I said above, would be really appreciated.
