- CALL FOR WORKSHOP PROPOSALS
- THE WORLD CONFERENCE ON ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE IN EDUCATION (AI-ED 93)
-
- The Program Committee of the World Conference of Artificial
- Intelligence in Education (AI-ED 93) invites proposals for the
- Workshop Program of the conference. The conference is being held in
- Edinburgh, Scotland, 23rd-27th August 1993. Individual workshops
- may be either a full day in duration or a half day in duration.
- Half-day workshops will be held on the afternoon of Wednesday,
- 25th August; full-day workshops will be held on Friday, 27th August.
-
- Workshop participants will have the opportunity to meet and discuss
- issues with a selected focus - providing an informal setting for
- active interchange among researchers, developers, and users on topics
- of interest. Members of all segments of the AI in Education
- community are encouraged to submit proposals.
-
- Proposal Content
-
- Proposals for workshops should be about 2 pages in length, and should
- contain:
-
- - A clear description of the workshop objectives, and the intended
- audience.
-
- - An outline of the specific issues on which the workshop will
- focus.
-
- - A brief discussions of why the workshop is of particular interest
- at this time.
-
- - The names and addresses of the workshop chair and organizing
- committee. The organizing committee, including the workshop
- chair, should consist of 3 to 4 people knowledgeable in the field.
- Strong proposals include organizers who bring differing perspectives
- to the workshop topic.
-
- - An indication of whether you prefer a full-day format or the
- half-day format.
-
- Administrative Details
-
- The workshop organizing committees will be responsible for soliciting
- position papers from prospective participants, and selecting
- participants. AI-ED will provide logistic support and meeting places
- for the workshops, handle registration, and
- print working notes. People registered for the AI-ED 93 conference
- will be able to register for the workshops for free; others will
- be charged a registration fee to attend the workshops.
-
- Workshop organizers are expected to prepare a workshop summary for
- publication in the AI-ED Newsletter and in newsletters of other
- organizations supporting the AI-ED 93 conference.
-
- Organizing committees are expected to cooperate with the AI-ED
- program to meet scheduling deadlines. If the organizers miss
- deadlines set by the AI-ED Workshop Chair, AI-ED reserves the
- right to cancel the workshop.
-
- Submissions
-
- Workshop proposals should be submitted as soon as possible but no later
- than December 12, 1992. Electronic submissions are encouraged. Please

- CALL FOR TUTORIAL PROPOSALS
- THE WORLD CONFERENCE ON ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE IN EDUCATION (AI-ED 93)
-
- The Program Committee of the World Conference of Artificial
- Intelligence in Education (AI-ED 93) invites proposals for the
- Tutorial Program of the conference. The conference is being held in
- Edinburgh, Scotland, 23rd-27th August 1993. Tutorials will be
- one-half day in duration, and will be held on Wednesday, 25th August.
-
- We are interested in proposals covering either beginning or more
- advanced areas. Topics amenable to immediate practical applications
- or usage are especially welcome.
-
- Submission Requirements
-
- We need two kinds of information in proposals: information that
- will be used for selecting proposals and information that will
- appear in the tutorial description brochure. So each proposal should
- contain the following:
- - Goal of the tutorial;
- - Detailed outline, possibly augmented with sample materials;
- - Tutorial description: a short paragraph summarizing the tutorial
- outline;
- - Prerequisite knowledge: what knowledge is assumed.
-
- Please also submit the following information about the
- presenters:
- - Name, mailing address, phone number, email address;
- - Background in the tutorial area, including a list of
- publications;
- - Any available examples of work in the area (ideally, a
- published tutorial-level article on the subject);
- - Evidence of teaching experience (courses taught or
- references);
- - Evidence of scholarship in artificial intelligence in
- education
-
- Each tutorial may be offered by an individual, or by a team
- of presenters.
-
- Those submitting a proposal should keep in mind that
- tutorials are intended to provide an overview of a field
- or practical training in an area; they should present
- reasonably well agreed upon information in a balanced
- way. Tutorials should not be used to advocate a single
- avenue of research, nor should they promote a product.
- Tutorial presenters and attendees should both plan to
- register for the conference.
-
- Submission Deadline
-
- Proposals must be received by December 12, 1992.
-
- Decisions about the tutorial program will be made by
- January 8, 1992.
-
- Speakers should be prepared to submit completed course
- materials by July 1, 1993.
-
- Electronic submissions are encouraged. Please
- address questions regarding submissions to the Tutorial Chair:
