- With all the work done in SCSI and high-end PC boxes, I'm afraid my
- knowledge of the current low-end stuff is lacking. And I now have to
- work with one such box. Any help is appreciated on the following two
- questions:
-
- - The box presently has a 40MB IDE drive, and I don't know spit about
- IDE. Is this just a one-cable replacement for the old ST-506 interface
- or is there more to it? Do I still have to worry about setting drive
- types in the PROM setup? If I want to replace this drive with larger
- one, does the new drive need low-level formatting? Will my copy of Disk
- Manager do the trick?
-
- - RAM: The box is a 386SX that is only designed for 4MB on the
- motherboard. Will any 16-bit ISA bus RAM card be OK for expansion?
- Any comments on using Quarterdeck's QEMM as a memory mapper?
-
- Again, thanks. Please e-mail unless you think your comments have broad
- interest.
