- Below are a summary of the responses. Thanks to Linda Atkinson,
- Deanna Wild, Ken Hardy, Wilf Rosenbaum, Beth Gladen, Phil Gallagher,
- PARKERRA@ctrvax.Vanderbilt,.edu, and Jim Cassell. And thanks to others who
- I might have missed while posting this.

-
- Tim,
-
- The infamous software is SUDAAN (SUrvey DAta ANalysis). We have both the PC
- and mainframe versions here at CDC/NIOSH.
-
- The LATEST version of SUDAAN is supposed to handle survival analysis (with
- complex weighting schemes). However, we do not have that version yet as it
- JUST came out, I believe.
-
- The weights given to observations would depend upon your sampling scheme (#
- of stages, with and without replacement, etc...). SAS, of course, allows
- weights also, but will NOT compute the standard errors of any statistics
- correctly. (The point estimates are fine, though.)
-
- To obtain info' on SUDAAN, write to:
-
- Dr. Babu Shah
- Research Triangle Institute
- Post Office Box 12194 (3040 Cornwallis Road)
- Research Triangle Park, North Carolina 27709
-
- I should warn you, though, SUDAAN is NOT the easiest package to
- use, or the most elegant. Have fun!

-
- SUDAN is great stuff for figuring standard errors for a variety of statistical
- models when the sampling scheme generating the data is complex rather than
- merely simple random (i.e. stratified or cluster sampling is used). You can get
- information on it from Sandra M. Paschall at the Statistical Software Center,
- Research Triangle Institute, PO Box 12194, Research Triangle, NC 27709-2194.
- Her number is 919-541-6602.
-
- Hope this helps you out.

- I'm guessing that you colleague was referring to SUDAAN, which is available
- from Research Triangle Institute, PO Box 12194, Research Triangle Park,
- North Carolina 27709. Their phone number is (919) 541-6000.
- Hope this helps !

-
- I think the name is more like SUDAAN; some extra vowels somewhere.
- I think it's from Research Triangle Institute, in Research Triangle Park NC.
- There are two numbers listed in the phone book for RTI; 919-541-6000
- and 919-541-6753.

-
- Tim, I think you will get 50,000 correct answers to your question,
- but let me start while I have time. SUDAAN is at least part of
- package written by B.V. (Baba, to his friends) Shah at the Research
- Triangle Institute in Research Triangle Park, N.C.
-
- If you don't get a more detailed answer by tomorrow morning from
- someone, let me know, and I will get on the phone - it's a local
- call from here.
- P.S.: Two A's in SUDAAN.
-
- From: PARKERRA@ctrvax.Vanderbilt.Edu
-
- Sudaan is sold by RTI (Research Triangle Institute) in North Carolina.
- It allows for cluster sampling, but is very expensive $999 for a single
- user DOS license.
-
-
- From: Jim Cassell <CASSELL@UNCVM1.OIT.UNC.EDU> or CASSELL@UNCVM1.BITNET
-
- SUDAAN is produced by the Research Triangle Institute in Research
- Triangle Park, NC, 919-541-6000. (They also have an 800 number, but I
- don't know what it is.) I'm not certain who the official contact person
- is, but you might call the main number and ask to speak with someone
- about SUDAAN. If that fails, ask to be transferred to the main Center
- for Research in Statistics number (part of RTI) and start asking them
- about SUDAAN.
-
- Several RTI employees read this list, so you may get info from them.
-
- Best, Jim
