  116. >  We are moving from r5.18 to r6.07 at our site, MVS batch.  The
  117. >problem is the name change of the SASLIST and SASLOG DDnames.  It
  118. >is a long standing practice at our site to order all the DDnames
  119. >ALPHABETICALLY IN PUBLIC PROCS.
  120.
  121. Some lessons we learn the hard way. After many years of "improving"
  122. procedures provided by vendors, my answer is don't. The documentation
  123. provided by the vendor will tell the user to change this or that
  124. parameter, override the JCL this way, add to the command language
  125. that way,... and when your command process doesn't work that way
  126. cause you "made it standard", "improved it", "fixed it" the
  127. users (especially novice computer users) get very confused.
  128.
  129. Make site written procs any way you want, provide vendor supplied
  130. procs as exactly as provided by the vendor as you can. Your rule
  131. is actually quite good; it provides a constant about the names
  132. for overridden ddnames. But, vendors IBM, SAS, SPSS, BMDP ....
  133. won't adhere to YOUR rules over time.
