  12. Hi y'all !
  13. Any suggestion concerning the following document processing problem ?
  14. Platform: SAS 6.06 under OS/2.
  15. We are going to process data for an ongoing medical survey. Each time a
  16. set of questionaire comes in, a nice report has to be published for the
  17. population included on this set. There will be hundreds, may be
  18. thousands (?), of sets, that means as many reports. That also means:
  19. automatic document processing, except maybe document collating. The
  20. report should look like a nice booklet (about 20 pages), and contains a
  21. mix of text, graphics, and tables. The tables and graphics are generated
  22. by SAS programs, and can be sent either directly to a graphic device to
  23. be inserted in the document, or to GSF (Graphic Stream Files) to be
  24. picked by a desktop publishing/word processing program. The text part
  25. contains (many) elements calculated by the SAS programs, which we do not
  26. want to manually type-in. FSLETTER, while it allows mail merge, is too
  27. primitive as far as desktop publishing features: try to bold or
  28. italicize, subscript or superscript with it, and you'll se what I mean.
  29. WordPerfect seem to be an adequate tool for text (mail) merge, with the
  30. added conveninec of being able to enhance existing graphic images and
  31. tables.
  32. Questions:
  33. 1) has anynone any insight on creating a secondary WP file with SAS. I
  34. know that it can be a comma delimited file, but I don't know how to mark
  35. end of field and end of record, and if I need a special header.
  36. 2) SAS and WP accept all kinds of graphic formats (TIFF, PCX, HPGL
  37. etc..) I'm not an expert in the differences. Which one is recommended ?
  38. (PS: if it matters, we will be using a color graphic laser printer, I
  39. believe a QMS. But this is not definite yet).
  40. 3) After writing all this, I just read in the WP 5.1 documentation
  41. (1989) that "currently", WP will print color graphics images in black
  42. and white only. Does anyone know if this has changed ? I will also post
  43. the question on the WP forum on Compuserve and let the answer be known
  44. to the list if there  is an interest.
  45. 4)  Last, but not least, short of WP, can anyone suggest any other
  46. non-esoteric solution to this problem. Anyone knows anything about
  47. SAS/PUBLISH ?
