- Are you tired of hearing about TABULATE and solid lined tables using
- DEC laser printers? Yes? :-( Oh well, just to make sure that I
- shouldn't throw out post-processing routines I contacted tech. support
- and received the answer given below. Note that Tina says that this MAY
- BE a '93 SASware ballot item. I wonder if interested parties shouldn't
- do some additional lobbying, perhaps via SAS-L or by letter?
-
- I'm considering submitting my post-processing approach as a SUGI talk,
- but if you're desperate and interested, feel free to contact me
- directly and I will send you the guts of it.

- The first 8 lines of your original description is included below
- for your convenience:
-
- > BEGIN ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION
- A long-standing problem under VMS with DEC laser printers is the inability to
- print solid-lined PROC TABULATE tables using the FORMCHAR option since, to
- the best of my (or SAS-L's) knowledge, DEC can only print solid lines using
- either SGR or DECVEC escape sequences. This would require a 1-to-many
- mapping of FORMCHAR instead of its current 1-to-1 mapping. At present, post
- processing the output is one workaround. Is there any other? Is there any
- plans for a future release of the SAS system under VMS to allow 1-to-many
- FORMCHAR mappings?

- Hi Kernon,
- You and your fellow SAS-L'ers are correct--there is no other way to achieve
- the solid lines other than post-processing the output. At this point in time
- there has been no discussion of adding this capability to the FORMCHAR= option,
- but we have had several suggestions submitted so far. I know this item is
- being considered for inclusion in the 1993 SASware Ballot, which is scheduled
- for shipment in the 1st quarter 1993 SAS Communications issue. You might want
- to look for it and enter your vote.
